Obligation memorial Saint Martin of Tours, Bishop
The first reading from the Book of Wisdom gives instruction to seek the Lord in integrity of heart. For wisdom is not available to those who plot evil, or we lie under the burden of sin. In the Gospel, Jesus warns against those who lead others to sin, and he cautions his disciples to be on their guard, and to forgive those who repent of their sins.
The Lord knows us intimately
Though Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel might appear intimidating, we are reminded of the love of God has for us, even amidst our sin. There is no part of our lives that God does not know, and this intimacy draws us into deeper relationship with the Lord. Let us pray: God of mercy, you know the depth of our hearts and love us as we are. Please answer these prayers according to your perfect will. Amen.

Love justice, you who judge the earth;

and his power, put to the proof, rebukes the foolhardy;
Because into a soul that plots evil, wisdom enters not,

For the holy Spirit of discipline flees deceit

Obligation memorial Saint Josaphat, Bishop and Martyr
The first reading from the Book of Wisdom says the souls of the just are in the hand of God. Though the envy of the devil brought death into the world, all who are faithful God will receive mercy and grace, and abide with him in love. In the Gospel, Jesus asks his Apostles about the proper role of a faithful servant, and tells them how they should behave in that role.
Give witness to God’s love in our lives.
Our focus today is on being faithful servants. It is not something we do because we are expecting to be rewarded, rather it is a choice we make to live a servant lifestyle as holy witnesses to God’s love. Let us pray: God of all creation, we present our needs to you this day. Help us to nourish and sustain our faith. Amen.

Obligation memorial USA.: Saint Frances Cabrini, Virgin
The first reading is addressed to earthly powers, urging them to seek wisdom. In the Gospel, Jesus heals 10 lepers and only one return to thank him.
May our hearts be ever thankful
In the Gospel today, Jesus acknowledges the faith of the grateful Samaritan. It is good reminder to be thankful for the love and mercy God offers us each day. Let us pray: God of all goodness, listen to our prayers and show us your divine mercy. Amen.

In the first reading, we hear about the qualities of Wisdom. Wisdom is given to God’s people, encouraging them when traversing life’s challenges. In the Gospel, Jesus announces to the Pharisees that the kingdom of God is in their midst.
Let us be instruments of God’s grace in building up the kingdom.
The kingdom of God is among us. Jesus dwells within our hearts as we place our lives in his service. What is privilege to be able to receive him in the Eucharist as we await the fulfillment of God’s kingdom on the last day. Let us pray: father, we bring you these petitions knowing that you are the source of all love, joy and peace. Amen.

In Wisdom is a spirit
intelligent, holy, unique,
Manifold, subtle, agile,

all-powerful, all-seeing,
And pervading all spirits,
though they be intelligent, pure and very subtle.
For Wisdom is mobile beyond all motion,

Optional memorial Saint Albert the Great, bishop and doctor of the Church.
The Book of wisdom extols the logical allure of beauty, which leads us to the Creator of all things beautiful. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches about how the fullness of the kingdom of God will take people by surprise.
Today is the day to walk in the way of the Lord.
The reign of God is mysterious. Because of its mystery, it is both formidable and, at the same time, our hope. Since we will not know the day or the hour we will be called to judgment, it is wise to be prepared with faith-filled hearts each and every day. Let us pray: O Holy One, we humbly ask that you hear our prayers and grant them according to your will. Amen.

and who from the good things seen did not succeed in knowing him who is,

or the luminaries of heaven, the governors of the world, they considered gods.
Now if out of joy in their beauty they thought them gods,
let them know how far more excellent is the Lord than these;
for the original source of beauty fashioned them.
Or if they were struck by their might and energy,
let them from these things realize how much more powerful is he who made them.
For from the greatness and the beauty of created things
their original author, by analogy, is seen.
But yet, for these the blame is less;

though they seek God and wish to find him.

but are distracted by what they see, because the things seen are fair.
But again, not even these are pardonable.
For if they so far succeeded in knowledge

Optional memorial Saint Margaret of Scotland; Saint Gertrude, virgin; Saturday in honor of BVM.
The author of the Book of wisdom recounts God’s mighty deeds on behalf of Israel – the tenth plague and the parting of the Red sea. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches about prayer by telling the parable of the persistent widow and the dishonest judge. He asks whether the Son of Man will find faith on earth.
God hears our prayers
God cares for his people enough to intervene on their behalf. Unlike the judge in Jesus’ parable, God delights in answering and our prayers and petitions. The call to persevere in prayer is not about changing God’s will, but about changing our hearts. Persistent prayer makes us holy and help us to endure in faith until the end of time. Let us pray: Father, we believe that you hear our prayers. We ask that you answer them according to your will. Amen.

For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
because this widow keeps bothering me
I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.'”
The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
who call out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to answer them?
I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

In the first reading, Malachi proclaims the coming judgment where the proud and evildoers will face destruction, while those who fear the Lord will be healed. In the second reading, Paul reminds believers to behave in an orderly way. In the Gospel, Jesus describes events that involve the persecution and suffering of believers, and warns them not to be taken in by false prophets or worldly signs.
Our security lies in God alone; he is our anchor and strength.
In the Gospel today, Jesus paints a picture of a time when there will be wars and earthquakes and famine. Yet he offers hope and says. Do not be terrified. We must know that our security cannot rest in anything of this world, but on God alone, who will sustain us in times of suffering. Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we entrust our prayers to you in the Holy name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”
He answered,
“See that you not be deceived,
for many will come in my name, saying,

do not be terrified; for such things must happen first,
but it will not immediately be the end.”
Then he said to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues
from place to place;
and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.
“Before all this happens, however,
they will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.
You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends,
and they will put some of you to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”
